We spent the hour working on our Advertising Projects today. If you did not finish your project, you must finish them for homework (you SHOULD have finished it, since you had TWO class periods to work on it!). You can download the project requirements here. Presentations will begin tomorrow!
Periods 3/4 and 8/9: Review your Vocabulary words for Unit 5. Complete page 63 in your Vocabulary Workbook (all). Reminders: You have a Vocabulary Quiz on Unit 5 tomorrow. You also have your first Reading Log of the second quarter due tomorrow! We began working on our Advertising Projects today. You will be given class time to work on them tomorrow. If you do not finish them by the end of class tomorrow, you will have to work on them for homework. If you use your time wisely, you will not have to worry about that! You can download the project requirements here. Presentations will begin on Friday! Periods 3/4 and 8/9: Write one sentence for each of the vocabulary words from Unit 5B. Reminders: You have a Vocabulary Quiz on Unit 5 on Friday. You also have your first Reading Log of the second quarter due Friday! Welcome to the second quarter! For some of you, I bet it feels good to start over! Periods 3/4 and 8/9: Complete pages 61-62 in your Vocabulary Workshop workbook (CTS #'s 2, 5-6, 8-9, 14-17, 20 and Synonyms and Antonyms #'s 1-6, 13, 18-20). Period 7: Finish your Ad Hunt activity. Hunt instructions are below (as a reminder). L - Label (What type of figurative language did you find?) I - Identify (Quote the actual figurative language written in the text.) S - So what? (So what’s the big deal with this language?) What makes this language effective in this ad? Who is the intended audience? What effect would this figurative language have on the audience? Is this an appropriate effect? What is the author’s overall purpose of this ad? How does using the device help or hurt the author’s overall purpose? Reminder: October Bingo is due on Friday. Reading Log #1 for the second quarter is due on Friday. Extra copies of both are available in my classroom or under the Handouts tab on this webpage.

Periods 3/4 and 8/9: Write sentences for each vocabulary word from Unit 5A. This will be due Tuesday, October 28th! There is no Language Arts homework! Remember that even though a Reading Log is not due this week, there will be one due next Friday! :-) Periods 3/4 and 8/9: Complete #'s 7-12, 14-17 on page 62 in your Vocabulary Workbook (Synonyms and Antonyms). Period 7: Finish "coloring" your Figurative Language Hunt. All periods: PREPARE for your figurative language test tomorrow--some of you need to review BIG TIME! To review using flashcards, click HERE. Scholastic orders are due tomorrow! Bring cash or check with your order form to me tomorrow OR click HERE to order online! We had GREAT today--so there is no homework for Language Arts! However, you will have to have your Personification Unscramble worksheet done for tomorrow.
Block classes need to complete page 61-61 in your Vocabulary Workshop workbook (#'s 1, 3-4, 7, 10-13, 18-19) Reminders: Scholastic orders are due on Wednesday. You can order HERE or you can bring the order form to me with cash or a check payable to Scholastic Reading Club. You have a Figurative Language Test on Wednesday. This will cover similes, metaphors, personification, idioms, onomatopoeia, and hyperbole. There is no reading log due this week due to fall break on Friday and the Boogatta on Thursday. You WILL have a Reading Log due on Friday, October 31st. All periods: Complete your personification scramble worksheet. Eat a caramel apple (for fun, people!).
